I just had to drop you a line regarding the William Optic Apograde kit. I recently purchased the kit after damaging the fine focuser on an Astrotech AT80. Aside from the desire to convert the focuser to your higher quality dual speed unit, I was not pleased with either the color fringing or lack of sharpness of the scope at high magnification. The upgrade was painless to install, the focuser is now smooth as butter, and the images obtained on my first night of observing with the new objective were not just an improvement, they were absolutely stunning. The improvement in color correction is expected. What I did not expect is a scope that now rivals 102mm apochromatic refractors that cost three times my investment, and this is no exaggeration. In recent comparisons to an 8 inch SCT, my scope provided views of Jupiter that were sharper and equal in planetary detail. Thanks for this fine product.
Daryl Bothwell Just a quick note to thank you for the Megrez II SD APO upgrade package. I was already impressed with the color correction of the 80mm Megrez. It wasn't up to the level of a good apochromatic scope, of course, but it certainly was better than most, if not all, achromats I've used, including the Stellarvue 102DN, my previous choice for 'best achromat.' So I was completely unprepared for the absolutely amazing improvement in both color correction and image brightness when I installed the WO APO upgrade. The micro-focuser was a very nice bonus (and a steal at less that $40.00), allowing quick and accurate focusing. I could get the same focusing performance with the original single-speed Crayford but it took a LOT longer to get there!
